HostGator is a Houston-based company that has been offering WordPress hosting services for nearly 15 years. The longevity of the company definitely speaks to their popularity. They are most known for offering green hosting, which is an eco-friendly form of hosting that uses sustainable technology to reduce carbon footprint. The introduction of green hosting is the primary reason their company has surpassed many of the other hosting options in popularity. In the last few years, they have experienced a lot of growth. Currently, they host over 9 million websites and have over 400,000 unique customers.

HostGator Web Hosting Plans:
HostGator offers several hosting options. HostGator is currently offering 6 types of web hosting plans which are listed below.
HostGator Web Hosting Plans

  • Web Hosting/Shared Hosting: It provides the most affordable options in HostGator. Your content is hosted on shared resources. It is more appropriate for low-traffic websites as the performance of your site can be affected by the traffic of others you are sharing the hosting with.
  • Cloud Hosting: This service gives you better speed and more scalability. You have more dedicated computing and memory. So, your sites will generally perform better than shared hosting.
  • WordPress Hosting: This service is geared towards WordPress users. The servers are hosted in the cloud which gives you better speed and performance. The emphasis of the service is on traffic, so you can choose plans based on the traffic you expect.
  • Reseller Hosting: This service is geared for developers and designers who run their own website businesses. The emphasis is on providing more storage, bandwidth and business tools, so you can serve your customers easily.
  • VPS(Virtual Private Server): VPS stands for virtual private server. This service is designed for customers who have higher performance needs. Virtual servers are more customizable, reliable and scalable. This service is probably useful for mid- to large-sized companies.
  • Dedicated: Dedicated service is meant for enterprise-level customers. It’s the most expensive service and provides the highest performance. You might want to keep an eye on this service if you are expecting high-growth in the near term. This service will provide high-performance dedicated servers and world-class support for your hosting needs.
Excellent Uptime Results:
Website uptime is one of the most important aspects of a hosting service. If your site is down, clients or customers will be unable to find you or access your products or services.

I used a website-monitoring tool to track our HostGator-hosted test site's uptime over a 14-day period. Every 15 minutes, the tool pings my website and sends me an email if it is unable to contact the site for at least 1 minute. The testing data reveals that HostGator is remarkably stable; in fact, it didn't go down once in the two-week testing period. You shouldn't have to worry about your HostGator site going down for extended periods of time.
HostGator Support and Customer Service:
HostGator offers one of the best customer service in the industry. This includes 24/7 phone and live chat support as well as ticket based email support.

Inside your hosting dashboard, you will find their support portal. This portal helps you find quick answers from a knowledge base of 680+ articles and 500+ video tutorials.

Every HostGator account is fully guaranteed by the CEO, Adam Farrar. If you ever have a problem with the regular support, then you can ask your ticket to be assigned to Adam. He will actually respond personally to each ticket assigned to him.

Pros and Cons:
I’ve been a customer of Hostgator for the last 9 months. I’ve monitored their performance, uptime and performance during that time. I took the Hostgator Shared Hosting plan and my experience was pretty good.

Hostgator seems to be the ideal option for a serious business requirement. Some of the best features are like they always provide updated cPanel to manage my websites, I can park unlimited domain as well can redirect them to any of my website.
Pros:

  • Reliable hosting: HostGator guarantees an uptime of 99.99%. If you experience downtime below that, then you will get back one month credit on your account.
  • 45 days money back guarantee: HostGator offers 45 days money back guarantee. Normally, web hosting companies do not offer a money back guarantee exceeding 30 days.
  • Flexible billing periods: You can choose between monthly and yearly billing periods. Longer billing periods will get you the most discount.
  • Free migration: HostGator offers free migration service with all new accounts. Their expert team will transfer your website from your previous host at no extra cost during the first 30 days of signing up.

Cons:

  • No free domain: Unlike many other hosting companies, HostGator does not offer a free domain registration upon signing up.
  • Aggressive upselling: You need to review the additional services pre-selected during the sign up process. If you are unsure, then uncheck them anyways. You can always add them later when needed.

Conclusion:
If you’re looking for a basic hosting to start with, go for it. If you’re having business and you work with clients, you can also go for it(Dedicated or Wordpress hosting would be better). Though the server uptime is good, but the ping is inconsistent which makes the website really slow. Thanks!
